By bringing distant voices close, radio connects people and places. Radio Garden allows listeners to explore processes of broadcasting and hearing identities across the entire globe. From its very beginning, radio signals have crossed borders. Radio makers and listeners have imagined both connecting with distant cultures, as well as re-connecting with people from ‘home’ from thousands of miles away – or using local community radio to make and enrich new homes.
The Raga Project
The Raga Project is an ever-evolving, 24-hour audio experience that is synced to the local time of the listener. Borrowing from the structure of classical Indian ragas — improvised melodies shifted in composition to invoke specific moods for particular times of day/year — the work is a score in six phases and comprised of psychoacoustic binaural audio, The Schumann Resonance, messages from people describing their surroundings, clandestine numbers stations, Mongolian throat singing, time-stretched raga samples, iceberg and wind samples, and more.
Tuuune searches YouTube and Soundcloud for songs with an unusually high number of ‘likes’ but a low number of listens.
